You can expect most therapy sessions to be 45-50 minutes. Occasionally, when therapeutically helpful, we may recommend 80 minute therapy sessions. These longer therapy sessions can sometimes be beneficial for couples counseling work and for Brainspotting.

Establishing a safe environment and an authentic connection are our first priorities during an initial therapy session. We will start learning about you - what brought you to therapy? What would it look like for you to feel better? We will leave time to answer any questions you have about therapy and how we work with our clients. Because therapy is only a small part of your week and we know a lot of life happens between sessions, you can expect homework in order to be intentional with your time between sessions. We will each also work with you to set a day and time for your therapy going forward. See this blog post for more information on What To Expect From Your First Counseling Session #Dallas.

We think it’s important to know you don’t have to feel in “crisis” to start therapy. We know life can be tough, and we believe most of us could benefit from therapy at various points in our life. Whether you’re struggling with new, scary symptoms such as panic attacks or simply looking for a safe, non-judgemental place to process daily life, we would love to talk through whether starting therapy is right for you.

We find it most beneficial when first starting therapy to schedule consistent, weekly appointments in order to get a momentum shift in whatever brought you to our office. However, we are also respectful of financial and time constraints and want to work to establish a frequency that is genuinely most therapeutically supportive for you as an individual.
-
This answer looks different for each individual. You can expect us to check-in with you along your journey in therapy to make changes where necessary to the frequency of sessions and to prepare for termination from therapy when ready. We want to see a decrease in whatever symptoms led to you starting counseling, looking for changes such as less anxiety, feeling more emotionally regulated, and having healthier relationships.

Choosing a therapist is both a practical and personal decision. Practically, look for someone licensed in Texas with training in the areas you're seeking support, LIKE trauma, relationships, anxiety, or whatever brought you here. Personally, pay attention to how you feel during a consultation call. Do they seem genuinely curious about you? Do you feel like you could be honest with them? The research consistently shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of positive outcomes, so fit matters as much as credentials. At Crescent Counseling, we offer a free 15-minute consultation specifically so you can get a feel for whether we're the right fit before committing. A few worth asking: What is your experience with my specific concern? What does your approach look like in practice? How do you handle it if I'm not feeling progress? Do you offer flexibility in session format or frequency? And practically, what are your fees, and do you provide documentation for out-of-network reimbursement? These questions help you evaluate both clinical fit and logistical alignment. A good therapist will welcome these questions, not feel threatened by them.

Sessions at Crescent Counseling are collaborative, paced to your needs, and grounded in relational safety. We don't follow a rigid protocol from session to session. Generally, we check in on how you've been since we last met, explore what feels most alive or pressing for you, and weave in the approaches (like Brainspotting, nervous system work, relational exploration) that feel most supportive in the moment. You won't be pushed to go anywhere you're not ready to go. The pace is yours. Read more here!

Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (214) 586-0041.
